The Consultation

A great traditional sew in starts with a firm foundation;  to develop that firm foundation you should start with a consultation with your weave stylist.  The consultation will give you the opportunity to express the look you want to achieve and how you want to achieve it.   If your stylist is all about you boo then he/she will listen and  retain what you are trying to convey;  once you couple your desired look with his/her expertise the finished touch will have you leaving happy and booking your next appointment.    What you have to understand is that your weave stylist is the expert and if he/she has your best interest at heart then be prepared for an  honest, not brutal, but honest feedback during your consultation.   Below are some main questions your weave stylist should ask during your consultation.

  • What is your medical history? ( some medication cause hair loss)
  • What is your hair history? ( how often do you color,  are you natural or relaxed, etc;)
  • Do you have thinning areas or bald spots?
  • Have you ever worn a weave before,  if so what  was the method of installation?
  • What is your hair care regimen?
  • What products do you currently use?
  • How often do you want your style to last?
Also,  be prepared for your stylist to "get a feel" of your hair;  after all your stylist is the expert.  Your stylist will be able to recommend what type of hair you should use and the best technique to get your desired look.  Weaves are for everyone,  but since you are unique your consultation and your weave experience should be also.
